STILLWATER, MN–-Portland, OR-based Provenance Hotels, a lifestyle hotel management company, will open Lora, a new hotel, in Stillwater, Minnesota in spring 2018. Pairing the Great North’s tradition of gracious hospitality with a history rich in folklore and fable, Lora promises an evocative experience filled with relaxation, inspiration and intrigue. Located in the heart of this idyllic town just 30 minutes outside the Twin Cities on the banks of the St. Croix River, the 40-room hotel will be ideally situated for tapping into Minnesota’s outdoor splendor, whiling away an afternoon by the water or exploring the region’s history and small-town charm.
Considered the birthplace of Minnesota, Stillwater hosted the territorial convention in 1848 that launched the process of establishing statehood. Its location on the St. Croix River granted passage to Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin pine forests and the timber industry fueled prosperity. Soon, Stillwater was soon dotted with Victorian mansions, the biggest opera house west of Chicago, fine shops housed in brick buildings lining Main Street and six breweries catering to legions of thirsty loggers. One of those breweries was built in 1886 into the bluffs at the south end of Main Street and featured a series of caves carved deep into the bluffs that were used to store beer and source spring water. It is within the historic stone walls that housed that brewery, that construction on Lora is currently underway.
Guests visiting Lora will find the brewery’s caves, vaulted warehouses and carriage passageway transformed by the architecture and interior design team at ESG Architecture & Design of Minneapolis into a welcoming lobby, three floors of gracious guestrooms and several food and beverage outlets. In keeping with Provenance Hotels’ commitment to integrating art into the hotel experience, the fables and folklore of the region’s indigenous and immigrant people will be reimagined through contemporary works of art in Lora’s guestrooms and the nooks created by the building’s unique architecture. Designed to ignite the imagination, celebrate the site’s history and, at once, charm and intrigue guests and locals, interiors at Lora will marry modern design with a relaxed, approachable upscale aesthetic.
When it opens in spring 2018, Lora will become the first Midwestern property in Provenance Hotels’ award-winning collection – all of which earned Reader’s Choice Awards from Condé Nast Traveler in 2017. It will feature Provenance Hotels’ signature pillow and spiritual menus, much-lauded pet program, exquisite sleep experience comprised of down comforters, Mascioni linens and duvet covers made of 100% Suprima cotton percale, Simmons Black Label pillow top mattresses, and an EnduroTECH environmentally responsible foundation. Pairing these features with an attentive staff and intimate setting will make Lora the ideal location for special occasions or a memorable weekend escape.
