It’s no secret that people staying in hotels often let loose when it comes to dining—eating big meals at restaurants, treating themselves to decadent desserts and not really counting calories as they might do at home.
And while most hotels offer some sort of fitness room on the premises, many business people don’t have the time to utilize the equipment, and historically, those on vacation usually don’t like to think about exercise.
However, that feeling has changed of late, especially among millennial guests, and many hotels are upping their games when it comes to health and wellness offerings. The trend of health-conscious travelers is more prominent in today’s travel and hospitality industry.
Here’s a look at what several hotels are doing to maximize the health and wellness craze.
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas has implemented a new program derived by fitness aficionado Shannon Stringert, director of spa, salon & fitness, which boasts fitness elements that many resorts—especially those in Las Vegas—do not have.
For instance, there’s a Sweat 60 class, which is a group boot camp that offers high-intensity interval training involving boxing, plyometrics, strength training and core stability exercises, and designed to burn as much as 800 calories in one session.
Those looking for something a bit less extreme, the Cosmopolitan offers two state-of-the-art fitness centers and professional grade tennis courts, where guests can take lessons from a former tennis pro.
And beyond exercise, the hotel is promoting wellness with its signature cold-pressed juices and nut milkshakes at The Juice Standard, an on-site restaurant that offers 100-percent organic drinks, as well as vegan chewables.
Stringert recommends finishing the day with a visit to the Sahra Spa & Hammam for a detoxifying bath that utilizes a strong blend of pure essential oils to reduce fluid retention, restart circulation, and remove toxins.
The Conrad Dublin
The Conrad Dublin in Ireland has an ongoing partnership with 5StarFitness to provide guests with easy access to promote wellness while traveling. The 5StarFitness team provides weights and strength training to help guests tone their entire body while blasting fat and calories.
The hotel has a 24-hour fitness center and a staff to help out with any fitness questions and needs.
The property offers a complimentary breakfast at The Coburg, a locally-inspired menu with hearty options such as an egg white omelet or avocado toast, and provides a welcome amenity of a Superfood Smoothie and healthy treats, including granola bars and dried fruit.
Hotel Villagio & Vintage House
Late last year, Napa Valley’s Spa at The Estate Yountville, Hotel Villagio & Vintage House, became the first resort in North America to implement O2CHAIR, a chair with the ability to optimize breathing and decrease stress while increasing energy and vitality.
“The inventive technology encourages a deep state of relaxation in a short amount of time,” Terry Prager, executive director of spa & wellness at The Estate Yountville, Hotel Villagio & Vintage House, stated in a press release. “The O2CHAIR is ideal for our clients who are seeking relaxation in the spa, but don’t want to undress and get on a spa table. It is perfect for jet-lag, or guests who have over-indulged in wine tasting.”
The O2CHAIR increases oxygen intake with specific movement up the spine that encourages the “Breathe In” phase, while the “Breathe Out” phase encourages full release of the breath and discharge of toxins.
Hotel Rosa Alpina
In 2018, The Ranch Malibu, Malibu, CA, will open its first-ever European pop-up in the Dolomites. Known for transformational four-, seven- and 10-day health programs, The Ranch is hosting the experience at the famed Hotel Rosa Alpina, offering six weekly sessions, exclusively running from August 19 to September 29.
The Ranch Dolomites also marks The Ranch’s first overseas expansion of the award-winning California-based fitness program. It has also partnered with Impact Cryotherapy, the leading brand for whole body cryotherapy, to bring the revolutionary cold treatment to The Ranch Malibu this year. Offered as an elective service, cryotherapy will further enhance its wellness programming and amenities. According to the company, those who choose to participate will maximize their results, experiencing quicker recovery times following the demanding daily program, increased physical energy, metabolism and heightened mental clarity.
